I’m told by candidates all the time, “I don’t know if I’m ready to leave my current role.”
It’s a big decision. Its emotional. I get it, your job affects your livelihood and if you have a family to support, the decision can feel extremely heavy.
So, my answer to the question “How do I know I’m ready to leave my job?” is you need to write your resignation letter. Sounds cheesy right?
Actually, I just recently told a gentleman to write his resignation letter – – and he laughed and told me how cheesy that sounds.
I stand by my answer. Write your resignation letter early on in your job search. The emotions and feelings will flood in, and help you determine if you are ready to leave.
If you determine now is not the right time, there are questions you can ask your employer to enhance your current position. Listen in and gain the courage to speak to your leaders.
